"Other people have it worse"

Hey there guys! It's been a long time since I last talked about "deep" stuff on here, so I guess it's time to do so. What I decided to talk about something I'm sure you've been told in your life: "other people have it worse".
Do you ever start talking to someone about any problem you're having in the moment, and that person tells you: "other people have it worse"? The problem about when people tell you that, is that you start thinking that your problems are never important, you start to think that you're just overreacting. Because of that you keep your problems to yourself because you think they're not important, when they're killing you inside.
I'll never forget something that a great friend of mine told me one day when I was feeling down: "saying you can't be sad because other people have it worse is like saying you can't be happy because other people have it easier". I don't know if those were the exact words, but the concept was the same. And, it really made me think. She was absolutely right. Because, yes, other people have it worse, but, how does that mean you aren't allowed to feel pain?
Therefore, you can feel bad, you can have a bad day and because of that feel like shit. We're human, we have feelings, and something can happen that it hurts those feelings, and just because other people have it "worse" doesn't mean that our problems don't matter. Saying someone has it worse won't make the person stop being upset or start being happy, no, it doesn't work like that.
I will turn to a quote from a writer that I think is awesome, Stephen Chbosky, from his book "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (a really good one, if you like reading, you should give it a try):
"I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have"
We all have problems, and you're in your right of feeling bad because of them, and hurt, and feel hopeless. Because, that's what life is like. You go through shit, and get through it. Don't you think so? Let me know what you think about what I say, and, I hope you liked the post!
